Why GalUP SG is organizing Spill the Tea on Breast Cancer?

The answer is simple :

My co-founder, Max Devereaux, a passionate breast cancer advocate, has a personal journey that embodies resilience and hope. Through this event, GalUP Singapore is highlighting survivors from diverse walks of life and across borders—because cancer knows no boundaries of race, age, or gender.

Our featured speakers, including those from Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, will bravely share their experiences of facing fear with courage, breaking down myths and taboos around cancer, particularly in Asian cultures where health discussions can often be stigmatized.

In Asia, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, but cultural perceptions often delay detection and treatment. GalUP SG’s mission is to empower women—especially younger generations in Singapore and Southeast Asia—to understand that breast cancer is not a death sentence. With early detection and treatment, there is always hope. LISTEN to your body, advocate for yourself, and if something feels wrong, push for further checks.

We are also raising awareness of male breast cancer, a topic less discussed in our region, where social stigmas may prevent men from seeking help.

As the founder of an organization focused on self-empowerment for women, I believe we must also stand together to support men who may feel isolated due to the stigma surrounding breast cancer

Compassionate leadership is key, and we are honoured to have speakers like Puan Noor Aini Shaik Awab, CEO of Hong Leong Islamic Asset Management, and Dr. James Andrade, Head of Catapult Executive Leadership & Innovation Institute, to share insights on how to support employees through cancer with empathy and understanding.

Isabel Galiano, a twice breast cancer survivor and cancer coach, will share her valuable insights at the event. She will discuss resilience and compassionate support for those navigating the cancer journey, offering hope to those currently facing the battle. Additionally, she will delve into prevention strategies, emphasize the critical role of screenings and early detection.

We are privileged to partner with Catapult by CapitaLand as our venue sponsor. Their cutting-edge immersive studios allow us to connect with audiences across borders, amplifying the voices of cancer survivors and advocates from Malaysia, Indonesia, the USA, and other regions. This state-of-the-art technology underscores our message that cancer crosses borders, and so must our efforts to raise awareness.

This event’s call to action is not limited to Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October—it’s a year-round mission to educate, empower, and drive change in Singapore and beyond.

Join us on 5th October from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM at Catapult by CapitaLand for Spill the Tea on Breast Cancer. As we gather for a delightful high tea featuring exquisite teas and perfectly paired snacks, we’ll spill the tea on breast cancer in an uplifting and empowering way.
