“Remember who you wanted to be?”
I woke up this morning, greeted by this phrase – a headline on an old magazine, which has been sitting on my side of the nightstand. It was there for a sheer reason of research - for an upcoming speaking gig. Not sure about you but I am a keeper of old magazines – not all but those titles and issues that speak to me. So, through continents and cities over the years, they come with me. Yes, I’m nostalgic like that!
Back to the phrase that welcomed my Monday; do you recall all those years ago, when your current life is the one you had been praying for? I was born, brought up and educated mostly in Singapore (with a little stint in Australia). Since my earlier years, I know that I will want to experience life away from my cosmopolitan island shores. I want to be that foreigner, yes, that (exotic) foreigner sitting at the corner, sipping her tea - I yearn to be an expatriate. I was ready to do it on my own when I was swept-off my feet by the sweetest Norwegian man. He’s been taking me on adventures ever since – it has been 15 years.
We all have our wants and wishes but only the lucky few get to live them. Sometimes I wonder if fate handpicks us through a system or mere chance. Hmmm, so that’s my Monday in a nutshell - one that will keep me pondering.
On a separate note, May has just welcomed itself. Elsewhere, flowers have bloomed and warmer temperature made their appearance. In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where I am based, evening storms and heavy rains have been on the agenda, for the last many weeks. Not that I am complaining – evening rains and thunderstorms have always given me a cosy, lovely feeling - oh, as long as it does not clash with any of my outdoor endeavours. Candles burning, kids cuddled up on the sofa, mugs of hot chocolate in hands, a chick-lit.
Fab! Luxe has entered her 7th month in existence and I cannot be more proud of her. This month, we have a whole array of topics to talk about. Armchair globetrotting is one that we all can personally relate to at this given time. One of our writers takes on to talk about investment for novices – because many are clueless when it comes to money matters. For wine enthusiasts, we have an article, which takes you across continents to know more about what goes into our glasses. Defining beauty is such a subjective matter. Read our take on that in this issue. Get to know Oman and Turkey and follow our latest installations on Note To A Younger Self and Golf By Malkeet.
With that chockfull issue of Fab! Luxe, here’s wishing you a magical May!
