I am currently sitting in front of my Macbook, sipping-on a jar of gorgeous, velvety (oatmilk, banana, mixed berries, peanut butter, spinach) smoothie, wondering how it is even April of 2021; wasn’t it like three blinks ago when we first heard of this new pandemic called Corona Virus or COVID 19, as the months evolved?
Can’t believe most of us are all still within the borders we are contained in, whichever place you call "base" at this point. For me, the feeling of missing home has been overwhelming for the last month. Everything familiar is now in a distant memory - one year and four months to be exact. While positivity had been oozing when the whole pandemic started, I cannot deny it is waning thin at this point. While I have not been based at home, (home being Singapore), for the last 15 years, I have been a constant visitor, for whatever littlest reason I could find. This separation has been rather challenging, to say the least.
On a brighter note, April is my birthday month (it has been quite a number of rounds around the sun and it just gets fabulous-er) and April also marks the start of Ramadhan, fasting month for Muslims all over the world. Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, self-improvement, heightened devotion and worship. Those who observe, refrain from food and drinks during daylight hours, congregate for prayers and share meals as a community when the sun sets in. It is indeed a beautiful time of the year – a favourite childhood memory of the sights, sounds and scents whenever the holy month rolls over. There was a distinct shift in the air; it is almost unexplainable.
To that, I wish all Muslims all over the world, a beautiful, fulfilling and soulful Ramadhan. May this be your best year yet!
